Marian Tompson Breastfeeding Support in Emergencies Fund

Purpose

The Marian Tompson Breastfeeding Support in Emergencies Fund is a charitable initiative established to support breastfeeding during emergency situations. Named after La Leche League Founder Marian Tompson, this restricted fund will provide assistance and resources to LLL entities and Leaders so that they can reach out to communities and families facing crises such as natural disasters, conflict, displacement, and other emergency situations.

Breastfeeding is a critical aspect of infant and young child nutrition, providing essential nutrients and protection against diseases. During emergencies, when access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare may be compromised, breastfeeding becomes even more vital as a reliable source of nutrition and immunity for infants and young children. In addition, these adverse events are stressful for infants as well as those around them. The emotional benefits of the intimate breastfeeding relationship can help to mitigate the adverse effects of these stresses on infants and their caregivers.

The Marian Tompson Breastfeeding Support in Emergencies Fund seeks to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding during crises and to ensure that mothers have the necessary support to continue breastfeeding.

By supporting this fund, individuals, organizations, and communities contribute to the protection and well-being of the most vulnerable members of society during times of uncertainty and upheaval. The Marian Tompson Breastfeeding Support in Emergencies Fund exemplifies the commitment to safeguarding the health and development of infants and young children in the face of challenging circumstances.
